To determine whether the 1q31 locus contributes to asthma in children of African ancestry also, we used data from 1667 African-American kids with physician-diagnosed asthma and 2045 controls who did not have asthma to check the 20 1q31 markers which were implicated in the analysis of the discovery place for a link with asthma. A complete of 17 of the 20 SNPs were considerably associated with asthma, although the linked allele at each SNP was the alternative allele to that associated with asthma in the discovery established .
